Dr. Henry E. Holloway Jr. Memorial Virtual Golf Tournament
Perhaps A First In Charitable “Virtual” Golf for Greek Fraternities
The Dr. Henry E. Holloway Memorial Golf Tournament first held September 2010 at Mystery Valley Golf Course in Stone Mountain, Georgia will open itself up this year “virtually” to regional national and international competition for a worthy cause. The tournament is named in honor of Dr. Henry E. Holloway, Jr., an emergency room physician who died in April 2010. Dr. Holloway was an active member of Project Uplift, Inc. and worked tirelessly with students throughout DeKalb County. In honor of his contributions, the foundation started this event so that his work with students can be carried on through the years.
Project Uplift, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit foundation established in 1989 as the philanthropic arm of the Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter ( Decatur, GA) of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The foundation was formed to serve as a conduit through which the Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter implements and conducts initiatives to improve the lives of individuals within our communities.
The Four Cardinal Principles of the Fraternity: “Manhood”, “Scholarship”, “Perseverance”, and “Uplift”. These exceptional principles serve as guides in determining the course of action that Project Uplift, Inc. elects to pursue. Project Uplift and the KAA Chapter’s target outreach area is DeKalb County with special focus on the areas comprising Stone Mountain, Lithonia, Decatur, Clarkston, Scottdale, and Tucker. Its vision is to establish world-class educational, health and social programs that have a positive impact within our communities. The mission of Project Uplift, Inc. is to identify, obtain and direct resources to implement and support programs and activities that enhance the lives of individuals, particularly youth, within our communities.
For Charity: Since the tournament’s inception in 2010, Project Uplift has raised over $300,000 to contribute to young students in DeKalb and Rockdale Counties. In support of Dr. Holloway’s vision, Project Uplift presents its premier scholarship award to a male student committed to attending medical school and advancing to becoming a physician. This effort exemplifies Project Uplift’s goal of community support and empowerment.
