The first video was narrated by the late great Ossie Davis. He strongly believed in the work of the Real Dad’s Network.
The Real Dads TM Network is the outgrowth of the award-winning documentary Real Dads -Black Men on Fatherhood (2000,) which included commentary by the late Ossie Davis and was directed by Derek Phillips and Nikki Dees. W. Calvin Anderson was the Public Relations person for Ossie Davis on this project. The purpose of documentary was to show positive black fathers who were actively involved in the nurturing and raising of their children.
Real Dads(R) Network is a growing organization dedicated to increasing the number of fathers involved in the parenting process, thereby strengthening families and communities.
We accomplish this by recognizing and celebrating fathers who are actively engaged in the lives of their children; by supporting and providing resources for fathers who would like to take a more active role in parenting; and by encouraging public policies that support shared parenting.
The Real Dads Network engages in and sponsors a variety of activities – skill-building workshops, informational seminars, male mentoring, networking, Daddy Daughter Dances, Real Dads awards banquet, community and school-based partnerships, advocacy, etc. – designed to educate and encourage men to embrace their roles as dads, husbands and leaders in the context of family and community life.
Our vision is to become a nationally recognized leader in the fatherhood movement, to establish chapters around the country, and to unite with other organizations to use our resources to create effective and sustainable social improvement.
